Do you make a living with your faith?

topic posted Fri, September 14, 2007 - 5:15 PM by  Vashti
Just curious, I've always wanted to just be completely immersed in my beliefs and way of life so much so that i'm able to make a living with it. If I were in the city, I'd spend my retirement to own an occult book store. Alas, I live in the country and you just can't make a living with that surrounded by christian farmers. So, I'm looking to peddle wares online.

Wonderfing though, any others out there that make a living with pagan products or offering spiritual services? What do you think about what you do? Do you feel blessed to bring enlightenment to the masses? Do you feel like a fast food spiritualist, or do you equate your business with the psychic hotline?

You know what's weird? I could sit around making crafty things all day and think about selling them, but all I ever want to do is just give them away.

I guess I'm just more service than money oriented. Now, if I could work for a pagan flavored company, I would be in heaven.

    :D

I've been to festivals where first time vendors didn't know what to charge for their wares or services. It is a tricky balance between community service and profit.

        Hi,
I make a living mostly teaching shamanic herbalism, selling nourishing herbal products and such.
I feel blessed to be part of a service oriented profession that feeds me spiritually.
I am working to get rid of the story that money is not meant for spirit.
In my opinion, money is spirit, is bliss, is source and so to ask for money for what I do is to step into
the ever flowing energy of abundance and to invite others to join me.
What a beautiful thing that the money I make from my wares, apprenticeships and my classes goes in turn to
those who grow organic vegatables, produce organic cotton clothing, help to heal my spirit.
Since this is a prosperity tribe.....let's walk our talk and help to create a world where money is spent on
sustainable, inspiring and treasured works and deeds.
        Blessings, Julie

          Well said Julie!
my path is slightly different. I am trying to incorporate my faith into my normal job. I've been in the film biz for a wile now as a lighting tech, but almost a year ago I was tapped by the Fates to partner in a project that has brought me to a place where my spirit life and my life in film are meshing! Also, if this project is only half as big as I think it will be, you will be seeing me on the cover of many a magazine! So, I completely agree with Julie! When ever I think of all the things I'll be doing with the Oprah-like loot I'll be making, I always find myself funding non-profits, donating to our congregation (Gaia's Temple: www.gaiastemple.org/) etc. Money is a manifestation and/or representation of spirit. Don't fight it! It is an element of change! Partner Change or it will destroy you!

Yep, I am an astrologer/tarot reader/dowser and recently added Master Herbalist and Reiki II to my "toolbox" hehehe, and have been since 2001! I transitioned from being a legal secretary for 12 years by forming a crochet hat business that I still have part time and it helped me transition. I started studying in 1993 and knew I couldn't do this forever, and after getting more confident, I started the transition in 1997 and my last time in a legal office was in 2000. I was a single mom with two elementary-age kids with virtually no support at the time so it was super-scary! However, I feel that if you really want to do something, Spirit will lead the way, and the most important thing is to trust. It is harder than it seems, let me tell you! Looking back now, I feel like that was another lifetime it seems so foreign now, but there were times when I thought HOW am I going to do this all and wanted to slip back, but Spirit prevented me when I felt that way. I had to really learn how to RECEIVE. I wish you and anyone else considering such a change much luck in their endeavors!

I'm also just starting a pagan oriented business, though I also plan to sell used books from my copious colections of books.

I already have a BDSM business for things I make (I'm heavily involved in the BDSM community) and I think selling some of my non-BDSM handicrafts online will be a good thing. I will, however, give you a bit of advice. Don't quit your day job until you are sure that you are going to make enough money to support yourself. Selling crafts is not as easy as it may look. It takes time to build up a business, and if you're selling to a niche market, you may never make enough in sales to pay your bills.

i'm lucky enough to be married to a chemist, and he makes enough for us to live on. My teaching and handicraft selling gives us the extra money for luxuries. Without him, I'd probably have to get a real job.
